After college, things didn't go as planned. Taking a year off to live at home with my parents meant that by most definitions, I was a slacker. But slacker or not, I had to work to pay the bills. So, I work at a doctor's office hoping that will get me to medical school. These are my stories...

A Doctor's Touch
A video that I saw a while ago after reading Verghase's book(An incredible read)
A simple concept of touch to heal the patient. Loved listening to the video that gave insight into how the physicians of the 18th century treated their patients. They used their senses
Yes true, not only the doctors leave their hand touch but also the patience to listen and observe the patients, understand their mindset to diagnose th disease. The efficient and experienced doctors will not depend test and machines for unnecessary reasons , they can identify if such tests could be avoided.
I agree, a doctor's physical touch is very important in detecting early symptoms without going through lab tests immediately. These tests should just confirm suspicion of the diagnosis. Sadly, one of the reasons why patients are ordered to undergo this and that test is because they (hospital or clinics) have to recuperate the costs of buying these expensive machines.
The patient doctor relationship should be more than money related, the video shows that indeed a doctors devotion to his career and patient can enhance service delivery and help in treating their patients.
I love TED talks because they are always eye opening. I have experienced many visits with doctors where they appeared to not be listening and had poor bedside manner. Sometimes visits can be 5 minutes, and little is accomplished. Like the speaker said in the video, doctors love to order tests.
The video was incredible and inspirational. TED talks really do a great job when it comes to these types of stories. The video emphasized that a doctor who shows the characteristics of being passionate and determined is enough to treat and aid an ill patient.
I know of only one other physician who does touch her patients and is able to actually diagnose through that method. And I am always awed. It greatly disappoints me whenever I have to see a doctor who does not even touch a patient he is seeing. I appreciate tests and scans to confirm health conditions. But I appreciate it even more when a doctor takes time to touch and poke me wherever because it makes me feel that he or she truly cares.
