Occipital Stroke

Pt comes in complaining of vertigo and dizziness. The Pt had fallen because of the dizziness but he did not have any balance problems. He complained of low energy, very tense, and could not relax because of these symptoms. He had earlier stopped all of his medications because he believed that they were causing his his vertigo.

Upon examination, the Dr. confirmed the symptoms and checked that he had no vision problems, no vomiting, and no chills. Dr. conducted a neurology exam and it was non-specific. Doctor ordered an MRI. The results revealed that the pt had an occipital stroke.

Pt is retaking his medications under doctor's orders. He was subsequently admitted to the hospital for further evaluation and management.

  1. Those were probably side effects of the medication or underlying symptoms of another condition. However, before stopping meds, patient should have informed the attending physician for possible repercussions.

  3. Its always best to report to the doctor if the medication prescribed have negative effects on your health, instead of stopping to take the drugs. The patient should have reported immediately he started experiencing side effects.

  4. People can have different symptoms when they have experience or are experiencing a stroke. The common symptoms I know of are weakness, sweating, confusion, and loss of movement in face or arms. All in all, strokes are very scary and can cause massive damage.

  5. When you feel weary and unable to relax then consulting a doctor would be the best thing to do. Also, when you stop medications instantly then your body will have a shock and some symptoms may occur and that is why if you wish to stop on your meds then you need to just slowly decrease the amount you consume.

  6. quite often a patient can have some strange effects if he stops certain medications suddenly. Usually a doctor will recommend a gradual tapering off especially with opiate based meds.

  8. Due to varying effects of medications, some patients assume that they should stop their medications on their own which can be a bad idea. Consulting a doctor is the best way in dealing with sudden onset symptoms in order to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment necessary.

  9. One illness may really lead to another because of the side effects of the medicines we're taking for a certain disease. The best thing really is to be health-conscious and take care of ourselves carefully.
